Zebra Onyx Pendant Stone
This is a large Zebra Onyx Pendant Stone for necklace making that I recently made for sale.
To make the pendant I cut slabs from the original rough stone. From there I shaped the cabochon on a Flat Lap, drilled a hole, and finally smoothed and polished the stone to finish.
Zebra Onyx is a calcite mineral that is primarily sourced from Mexico. The stone is known for its black and white color and unique banded patterns. The banding is a result of alternating layers of black and white calcite on top of each other. The unique banding is similar to crazy lace agate another mineral found in Mexico.
Contrary to its name there actually isn't any onyx in this stone. Onyx is a type of chalcedony while zebra onyx is a calcite mineral making it much softer and easier to work with than traditional Onyx.
The dimensions are 2"x 1.65"x .25"
The weight is 125 carats or 25 grams.
