This is a Purple moss agate specimen that formed in limestone host rock. Agate typically forms in pockets of rock where silica is deposited by water gradually over time. I found this specimen near Hells Canyon in South Dakota on public land outside of park boundaries. The dimensions are 3.3"x 3.1"x 2.4", the weight is 14.92 oz.
