Petrified Wood Polished End Piece
This is a piece of Petrified Wood that I face polished on my FlatLap.
I recently found a good sized piece of petrified wood while out rock hunting. Ended up cutting some slabs and saved the end piece for polishing. I polished the cut face of the end piece and left the back of the stone natural.
Petrified wood forms when pieces of wood were rapidly buried in sediment like a swamp or river flood plain. The rapid burial prevents oxygen from interacting with the wood slowing the decay of the material. The slow decay allows time for silica and mineral rich ground water to flow through the material replacing wood and filling voids with minerals that precipitate out of the ground water creating a fossil.
This piece can function as a display piece or palm stone.
The weight is 8.99 oz
The dimensions are 3.55"x 2.70"x 1.62"
