Montana Moss Agate Pair Surface Polished

$55.00Price

This is a 13.62 oz pair of Surface Polished Montana Moss Agates that I recently made for sale. The agates are two halves of the same stone. This Agate glows yellow in the sunlight. The two main patterns on the surface are a Y Manganese moss pattern and a waterline banding section. This listing comes with both stones.

I started by cutting the rock in half leaving two flat surfaces to work with. From there I sanded and rounded the edges preparing the surface to take a polish. After that I smoothed the surface and applied a final polish to the stone. The final product is a polished cut face with the rest of the stone being left natural to show contrast.

Montana Moss Agates formed as a result of volcanic activity in the Yellowstone area. Silica rich groundwater running through the region deposited silica in voids of igneous rock and fallen trees. The reaction of manganese left over from volcanic activity and the silica rich solution from the ground water created the black and brown dendritic patterns found in Montana Agate. This process created the Montana Moss Agates that are found today. Over time the Yellowstone river carried the agates away from Yellowstone National Park and are now most commonly found on the banks of the river in eastern Montana.

The dimensions of the larger half are 3.33"x 2"x 1.69"
The dimensions of the smaller half are 3.27"x 1.4"x 1.6"

Combined weight of 13.62 oz
