Dugway Thunderegg Geode Face Polished
This is a Thunderegg Geode from the Dugway Geode Beds in Utah. Dugway Geodes formed in air pockets of Rhyolite where groundwater slowly deposited silica over time resulting in chalcedony formation. This is why Dugway geodes often have agate banding and botryoidal chalcedony within them.
This thunderegg has botryoidal chalcedony and agate banding inside its geode pocket. Botryoidal is a term for something that resembles a "cluster of grapes" I often call them bubbles. Thundereggs and agates have unique patterns created by the flow and deposition of silica. The pattern on this stone reminds me of a blue crow.
For this specific piece I sanded the surface to created a flat edge then face polished the area to give it a shine.
I Collected the original rough stone while on a road trip to the Dugway Geode Beds.
