Dugway Thunderegg Face Polished
This is a face polished Thunderegg Geode from the Dugway Geode Beds in Utah.
Dugway Geodes formed in air pockets of Rhyolite where groundwater slowly deposited silica over time resulting in chalcedony formation.
The original rough material was collected on a rockhounding trip to Dugway Utah near Topaz Mounatin. It was quite the pilgrimage to get to the location about 50 miles on gravel and 3 miles on a very primative rocky road.
This piece in particular has a unique Chalcedony pattern if you look closely you might see a chipmunk.
I face polished the front of the stone and left the back natural. The piece stands up on its own so it will function well for display.
The dimensions are 2.7"x 3.0"x 2.3" The weight is 10.12 oz.
